US says worried by Russia’s laws for local work of IT giants

GENEVA, Jul 2 (PRIME) -- The U.S. has named Russia’s law on IT giants’ operations as an obstacle for growth of the open digital economy, according to the materials of a meeting of the Council for Trade in Services of the World Trade Organization and seen by PRIME late on Thursday.

The U.S. demonstrated concern about the new measure that obliges technological companies with an audience of more than 500,000 Russians to open offices in Russia by 2022, which is part of a growing trend that obstructs speeding up the dynamic open digital economy, according to the materials.

The U.S. and Japan reiterated their worry about Russia’s law on obligatory preinstallation of its own software starting from Thursday.
